During a press conference in Orem, Utah, Governor Spencer Cox and federal officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel, provided an update on the investigation into the murder of Charlie Kirk but revealed no new details. Cox emphasized concerns about the spread of disinformation, particularly from right-wing figures, and called for public cooperation in identifying the suspect.
The update included previously released video footage showing a suspect, described as a tall, white male in his 20s, along with physical evidence like a high-powered rifle and prints found at the scene. Authorities have received over 7,000 tips from the public and offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest, while discussing the intent to seek the death penalty.
Kirk was shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University, and while characterized as political violence, little is known about the shooter’s motivations. President Donald Trump plans to posthumously honor Kirk with a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
