Kallxo.com has released a new documentary titled “Russian Disinformation after the Invasion of Ukraine,” highlighting the infiltration of Russian disinformation in Albanian-language media since the Ukraine invasion. Premiered on the invasion’s anniversary, the film is based on six months of monitoring war coverage, revealing how pro-Kremlin narratives have distorted public discourse and media integrity in Kosovo.
Executive Director of BIRN Kosovo, Jeta Xharra, emphasized the film’s dual purpose: to honor the victims of the war and to raise awareness about the misuse of Kosovo’s history to justify Russia’s actions. The documentary is the fifth in a series examining the pervasive influence of Russian narratives in Kosovo, showcasing alarming trends like manipulated translations and the mass sharing of Kremlin-linked content as news.
Ukrainian journalist Iryna Synelnyk spoke about her experiences in Kosovo, noting that much of the information she encountered was influenced by Russian and Serbian propaganda. She underscored the importance of combating such narratives, drawing parallels between historical conflicts in Kosovo and current events in Ukraine.
Overall, the documentary serves as a critical examination of the impact of disinformation on media integrity and democratic resilience during crises. It was produced as part of the Media Integrity and Disinformation Watch project, with support from the British Embassy in Kosovo.
