Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam urged unity among anti-fascist forces during a meeting with families of the July martyrs in Ramganj. He called for cooperation with the government to implement necessary reforms, emphasizing the need to address remnants of fascism in various sectors. Mahfuj highlighted proposals for reforms, including a drug rehabilitation center and upgrades to local healthcare and education systems, aiming for these to be enacted before the upcoming elections.
He stated that merely overthrowing the Awami League’s fascist regime is not enough; justice must be served for past wrongdoings. Mahfuj criticized the current institutions supporting the dictatorship and insisted on uprooting them before elections. He expressed satisfaction with the consensus reached among political parties in the form of the July Charter, which he deemed a significant step for Bangladesh’s future, envisioning a nation where justice prevails and violence does not recur.
Finally, he stated that ongoing trials for enforced disappearances and violence would continue regardless of the next government and distributed agricultural incentives to local farmers after the meeting. Other officials and community members attended the event, which followed a ceremonial welcome upon his arrival.
