First Nations organisations are spearheading the Sovereignty Never Ceded National Day of Action on 13 September 2025, in response to recent anti-immigration rallies in Naarm/Melbourne that turned violent, with neo-Nazis attacking a sacred site. The Blak Caucus announced the protests following an earlier rally against the Northern Territory’s government policies, aiming to address issues including racism and socioeconomic struggles exacerbated by government corruption.
The recent pro-immigration protests, attributed to the Freedom movement, were marked by the presence of neo-Nazis who claimed ownership over the protests, culminating in an attack on Camp Sovereignty, a significant site for First Peoples. Dunghutti man Paul Silva emphasized that the upcoming rallies are about truth, justice, and equality, and not about fomenting division among communities.
The demonstrations seek solidarity from all Australians to combat racism and promote real change, while condemning the rise of white supremacy and the violence that has historically targeted First Nations people. As calls for unity grow, the Blak Caucus stresses that their movement is inclusive, not against white Australians but in pursuit of justice for all.
Silva urged for collective efforts against fascism and systemic oppression, stating, “The people united will never be defeated,” and called for solidarity against government corruption and discrimination.
