He views this as an attempt to sway Swiss politics and instill fear among the populace, emphasizing that such operations have increased since 2022. Pfister highlighted that Russian media, like Russia Today and Pravda, publish numerous articles in Switzerland aimed at spreading false narratives, including claims that undermine Switzerland’s neutrality and safety.
During a speech at a media event, he cited a specific incident where pro-Russian accounts circulated a manipulated video portraying Switzerland as chaotic, which gained over two million views. Pfister warned that unchecked disinformation poses risks to societal stability and urged Swiss media to uphold their responsibilities, asserting that a robust media landscape is crucial for national security amidst technological and geopolitical uncertainties.
