Notably, 132 (8%) addressed immigration, 114 (7%) focused on the Gaza crisis, and 101 (6%) pertained to Ukraine. Disinformation related to immigration and Gaza increased slightly, while coverage of Ukraine decreased by 3 percentage points.
AI-generated disinformation reached a new high, with 210 articles (12% of total) discussing its use. The rise of AI-generated content reflects a shift among disinformation actors. This content often aims to maximize engagement on social media, featuring sensational stories and visuals related to real-world events. AI has been utilized to enhance credibility across various disinformation narratives, including those targeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and promoting anti-immigration sentiments.
