About 150 people gathered in Palmdale for the AV Workers Over Billionaires Labor Day rally, organized by Indivisible Antelope Valley. Part of a nationwide wave of around 1,000 protests against President Trump and wealthy elites, participants held signs with messages like “Power to the People” and “Fight Fascism Now.” Many expressed concerns over potential threats to Social Security and government rights under Trump’s administration.
Co-organizer Robin Holden shared her fears about the dismantling of government services, while another participant emphasized the adverse effects of recent budget bills favoring billionaires at the expense of the general public. The rally also highlighted issues such as environmental protections and treatment of federal employees.
Demonstrators, including Marina and Peggy Chiappetta, showed support for democracy and labor rights, expressing a desire to fight against systems of inequality. The event also honored the spirit of protest by remembering those who would have joined, such as Henry Fowzer’s late brother.
