In Malita, Davao Occidental, the Davao Occidental Police Provincial Office (DavOcc-PPO) and local media came together to combat the rise of disinformation, misinformation, and fake news during an Anti-Fake News Consultative Forum. The event, held at the police headquarters, highlighted the role of social media in spreading false information that undermines public trust, incites panic, and challenges legal processes. Provincial Director PCol. Sherwin M. Butil emphasized the police’s responsibility to combat disinformation as crucial for community safety.
PLtCol. Elinar F. Agustin stressed the need to address the rapid spread of false information that can harm community rights and stability, while PCpt. Lope Prado pointed out the importance of public education in distinguishing between freedom of speech and damaging actions. Media representatives from Max FM and Sky Radio also condemned the spread of inaccurate information. The forum aimed to enhance digital literacy and encourage responsible information sharing, showcasing strong interagency collaboration among various local departments and organizations.
