As the New York City mayoral race approaches its conclusion, Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani teamed up with Senator Bernie Sanders at a town hall event at Brooklyn College, part of Sanders’ “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. The event drew around 1,700 attendees, who warmly welcomed the duo.
Mamdani criticized the City University of New York’s decision to fire adjunct professors over their support for Palestine, and he addressed concerns about former President Trump’s interference in the mayoral election. He emphasized that NYC “is not for sale” to corporate interests or Trump’s donors.
Sanders praised Mamdani’s rise in the polls, noting the grassroots movement behind his campaign, which has seen significant volunteer support. He pointed out the lack of endorsements from top Democratic leaders despite Mamdani’s growing popularity, questioning their hesitance.
During the Q&A, the pair discussed Trump’s threats against immigrants and the potential deployment of the National Guard in NYC, stressing the need for solidarity in opposing such moves. Attendees expressed strong support for Mamdani’s platform, which aligns with Sanders’ advocacy for working-class issues, highlighting Mamdani as a fresh, energetic candidate for change.
