In a recent statement, Akhter Hossen, member-secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP), criticized the Jatiya Party for adopting a “fascist stance” by advocating for a ‘No’ vote in the upcoming referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election. He accused the Jatiya Party of historically behaving as a ‘pet opposition party’ in a fascist manner, which he claims reflects their current attitude.
Hossen indicated that the public is likely to reject the Jatiya Party rather than the referendum itself. He expressed concerns regarding law and order during the elections, noting recent violent incidents, and called for stricter control over illegal activities by organizing the police force effectively.
Emphasizing the people’s desire for change after 54 years of oppression, he highlighted the demand for a participatory state system and urged support for the ‘yes’ vote in line with the ‘July Charter.’ Hossen also encouraged journalists to report objectively despite potential pressures. He is set to contest from the Rangpur-4 constituency under the ‘Shapla Kali’ symbol, representing a 10-party alliance, facing various other candidates in the election.
