University of Winnipeg acting students are staging “A Bright Room Called Day Revisited,” a modern adaptation of Tony Kushner’s original play, which serves as a warning about the rise of authoritarianism. Revamped in 2019 in response to the political climate under Donald Trump, this Canadian premiere explores the threats to democracy reminiscent of Weimar Germany. Director Christopher Brauer found new relevance in the revised script, which enhances the narrative with contemporary context. The production, part of the fourth-year honours acting curriculum, emphasizes the parallels between past and present political ideologies. After the performance on December 4, a feedback session will be held for audience interaction.
