At a recent UN Security Council meeting, China’s UN representative Fu Cong criticized Japan for making remarks concerning Taiwan, accusing its Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi of threatening military intervention. Fu stated that these comments undermine Japan’s commitments post-World War II and threaten regional peace. He emphasized that Taiwan is an integral part of China and urged Japan to acknowledge its past wrongdoings and cease its militaristic rhetoric. China’s deputy representative, Sun Lei, highlighted Japan’s increased defense spending and revisions to security policies as signs of a lack of genuine peace efforts. Experts noted that Japan has not sufficiently confronted its militarist past, raising concerns over a potential revival of militarism.
