Charlamagne tha God criticized Democratic leaders for “playing footsie” with Donald Trump despite branding him a fascist. In a Mediaite interview, he highlighted how Democrats may be undermining their own messaging by engaging amicably with a figure they claim is a threat to democracy. He pointed to Barack Obama laughing with Trump at Jimmy Carter’s funeral as a contradiction and questioned Joe Biden’s friendly greeting after Trump’s 2024 election win.
Charlamagne also criticized New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani for expressing a willingness to work with someone he labeled a fascist. He argued that collaborating with such figures normalizes fascism and diminishes the impact of the term. He raised concerns about the message sent when politicians call someone a fascist, only to later engage with them socially.
Later, he addressed his tension with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, dismissing Jeffries’ comments about him as “corny” and asserting his right to critique politicians. He emphasized that holding elected officials accountable is an American principle.
