In November 2025, the EDMO fact-checking network published 1,486 articles, with 10% focused on Ukraine-related disinformation and 9% on immigration-related disinformation. Disinformation on the Ukraine war increased due to heightened media attention, particularly depicting Ukraine’s military as weak and disseminating AI-generated false videos of Ukrainian troops surrendering. Claims against Ukrainian leadership, including accusations of President Zelensky’s corruption, also intensified amid real corruption reports.
Conversely, disinformation related to Gaza decreased by six percentage points due to reduced attention on the crisis. Immigration narratives primarily stemmed from far-right groups, portraying policies as favoring migrants over locals, and included false claims about citizens being compelled to house refugees.
AI-generated content in disinformation reached a new high, representing 14% of all articles, with significant use in Ukraine-related narratives and far-right propaganda. These developments illustrate the ongoing challenges in combating disinformation across these key issues.
