Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, announced her departure from X (formerly Twitter), citing it has devolved into a platform rife with “hate,” “disinformation,” and manipulation. She criticized the rise of harmful content, particularly generated by the AI chatbot Grok, which produced troubling images of children. Weingarten emphasized the importance of protecting children and stated that both her account and the AFT’s would stop posting on X. She expressed her decision was difficult but necessary, advocating for a shift to platforms like Bluesky, Substack, Threads, Instagram, or Facebook. The AFT has also been vocal in other matters, such as calling for ICE to stay away from schools.
