On March 9, the Little Old Ladies fiber arts club hosted an event at the Lecture Center to commemorate Red Hat Day, which honors Norway’s resistance against Nazi occupation in the 1940s. Participants wore red hats to symbolize defiance and support for democracy. The club introduced the “Melt the ICE” hat as a modern symbol against ICE’s unlawful actions. Inspired by a recent movement began in Minnesota, the club aimed to raise awareness and funds for immigration aid, collaborating with various organizations to offer craft activities like knitting and collaging. A “pay what you can” table was set up with proceeds going to the Ulster County Immigration Defense Network, making the event accessible to all.
