Andor, while not a traditional Star Wars entry (lacking lightsabers), has garnered critical acclaim as the best project since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012. Director Dave Filoni, who has previously shown dislike for the Rogue One prequel, recently became the President of Lucasfilm, though he has praised Andor. Tony Gilroy, the show’s creator, denied any creative differences between them, emphasizing a cordial relationship and acknowledging that Andor owes its existence to The Mandalorian.
In an interview, Gilroy discussed the show’s political themes, citing parallels to contemporary societal issues in the U.S. He revealed that Disney had asked him to avoid using terms like “fascism” in promotions, leading him to focus on historical models for the narrative. Originally planned for five seasons, Andor faced adjustments due to actor Diego Luna’s concerns about a lengthy commitment, resulting in the condensing of the timeline for Season 2. Both seasons of Andor are now available on Disney+.
