Renowned journalist J.J. Green, the national security correspondent at WTOP-FM and contributor to WJLA ABC7, has released a book titled “The Noise War,” aimed at combating disinformation. With a career spanning three decades, Green emphasizes the overwhelming presence of false information in the U.S. and the need for individuals to develop skills to discern truth from misleading narratives.
In an interview with 7News Anchor Victoria Sanchez, Green shared his motivation for the book, stemming from a life-changing moment when he and other journalists walked out of the Pentagon in solidarity against government-imposed reporting restrictions. This experience reinforced his commitment to upholding trust and integrity in journalism.
“The Noise War” is described as a practical guide, challenging readers to actively engage in the fight against disinformation, which Green characterizes as an “invisible weapon of mass destruction” that undermines trust and fractures societies. He aims to empower readers with a blueprint for navigating the landscape of misinformation. Green emphasizes that the issues surrounding disinformation transcend political boundaries, stating, “No party caused this problem… It’s individuals.”
The handbook consists of 81 pages filled with stories, strategies, and motivational insights designed to equip readers to confront and battle misinformation effectively. Green encourages readers not just to read but to take action in seeking out the truth.
