Heath Druzin, a former reporter and podcaster, will discuss Christian nationalism and political extremism’s impact on democracy in two Wood River Valley events this week. His podcast “Extremely American” delves into far-right groups, and his upcoming talks will center on strategies for productive dialogue in polarized times.
Druzin’s first event is at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, at The Community Library in Ketchum, moderated by Martha Williams. The second takes place at the same time on Friday, Jan. 23, at the Senior Connection in Hailey, moderated by Brian Johns. Both programs are free, with registration recommended. The Ketchum talk will be livestreamed and recorded.
The events are organized by Idaho Solutions, a nonprofit focused on community engagement, and partnered with various local organizations. Druzin’s work explores the influence of movements like Theocratic nationalism and jingoism, with the aim of fostering understanding and civic trust. Martha Williams highlighted Druzin’s integrity and curiosity in addressing these complex topics, emphasizing the importance of honest dialogue to navigate their growing influence, particularly in Idaho.
