Pakistan has condemned what it sees as a coordinated effort to falsely implicate the country in connection with the recent attack in Sydney’s Bondi Beach. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar criticized sections of international media, particularly from Israel and India, for spreading unverified claims about Pakistan’s involvement. He emphasized that credible evidence is needed for such allegations, which has not been presented.
Tarar pointed out that Indian authorities confirmed one of the attackers was Sajid Akram, originally from Hyderabad, India, and had been living in Australia on an Indian passport since 1998. He criticized media reports linking the attackers to Pakistan based solely on their names as irresponsible journalism. Additionally, while Indian police suggested Akram and his son received military-style training in the Philippines, the Philippine military could not verify these claims.
The attack resulted in 15 fatalities, marking it as one of Australia’s deadliest violent acts in recent years. Tarar expressed disappointment that even well-regarded international media outlets have highlighted unverified information, contributing to the spread of disinformation and propaganda.
