At the Turkic States Forum on Combating Disinformation in Ankara, Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of Azerbaijan’s Media Development Agency, emphasized the critical need for cooperation among Turkic states to effectively counter disinformation. He highlighted that traditional monitoring of social media is insufficient, as the landscape of information warfare has drastically changed due to modern technologies. Disinformation campaigns have become more sophisticated, often masking themselves as neutral narratives and posing significant risks.
Ismayilov stressed the importance of public education and media literacy in defending against these threats, which require coordinated national and collective responses. He noted that misinformation, including fake news and algorithmic manipulations, complicates the information environment, demanding a reliable and objective media ecosystem for safeguarding societies.
The forum, attended by delegations from various Turkic states, aims to foster effective communication and institutional collaboration to counter disinformation threats. Discussions will focus on the implications of disinformation on national security and regional stability, aligning with the OTS’s Information Action Plan for 2025. Ismayilov concluded that dialogue and cooperation among Turkic nations is essential in this ongoing battle against disinformation.
