On Saturday afternoon, about 50 demonstrators in Santa Cruz organized a protest themed “Signs of Fascism,” led by Indivisible Santa Cruz County. Wearing black, they held placards highlighting concerns such as “Ignoring the Constitution” and “Voter Suppression.” Organizer Denise Allen emphasized that the protest aimed to alert people about threats to American values, saying, “This is the resistance.”
Protester Shasta Greene spoke about “creeping fascism” in the U.S., mentioning issues like government corruption and autocracy. Other participants, like Jim McCarrick and Rachel Kaplan, expressed their frustrations with rising costs and the disappearance of individuals, respectively. The event featured chants and a solemn atmosphere to gather attention on serious topics.
Allen noted that previous protests featured more colorful signs, but the darker tone for this event was intended to provoke thought and encourage participation in the resistance movement. For more information, visit indivisiblesantacruzcounty.com.
