Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), known for her critique of the wealthy elite, recently faced scrutiny for her campaign spending on luxurious hotel stays while promoting her “Fighting Oligarchy” tour with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Despite her anti-affluence rhetoric, her campaign spent substantial amounts on high-end accommodations, including $3,508.92 at the Vdara Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas and $3,445.59 at the upscale Asher Adams hotel in Salt Lake City. These expenditures coincided with her speeches advocating against economic inequality and the influence of oligarchs in America.
Ocasio-Cortez, flying first-class and staying at lavish hotels while addressing issues like affordable housing and income disparity, raised questions about the contradiction between her spending habits and her political message. Meanwhile, Sanders also faced criticism for significant travel expenses, including over $221,723 on private jet flights during the same campaign.
Despite the pushback, Sanders defended his travel choices as necessary to reach large crowds. Ocasio-Cortez has garnered $15.4 million in campaign contributions this election cycle, prompting speculation about her potential aspirations for higher office in the future.
