In a recent podcast, comedian and podcaster Marc Maron sharply criticized Netflix, Dave Chappelle, and Bill Maher. He remarked that “fascism is good for business,” suggesting that Netflix prioritizes profitability over sensitivity to issues like those raised by the trans community in response to Chappelle’s 2021 special, The Closer. Maron argued that Netflix’s handling of the backlash showed their disregard for social impact, stating, “that is how fascism works in business.”
Maron also discussed Maher, expressing discomfort with his desperate tone and approach to remain relevant, despite acknowledging Maher’s ability to deliver good jokes. Maron conveyed his disapproval of Maher’s recent statements aligning with some of Trump’s views, calling him out for a lack of integrity.
He highlighted the troubling trend of comedians inviting figures he described as shameful and self-proclaimed white supremacists onto their platforms, arguing that it normalizes fascism and promotes authoritarianism. Maron concluded by asserting that these actions undermine democratic values and support a political climate leaning toward autocracy.
