In an interview with Dario, the vocalist of Serbian hardcore band Staticø, he emphasizes the band’s commitment to social issues, stating, “Always stand with minorities, the oppressed, the left behind.” Staticø was formed during the COVID pandemic as a response to feelings of hopelessness. The band grew from casual jam sessions to a serious project, culminating in their upcoming album, Absurdity of this World.
The album, set to release in late August, features more political themes influenced by current global injustices, including far-right movements and economic crises. Dario expresses hope for accessibility, as the album is being released through various local labels to benefit the Balkan audience.
The Serbian hardcore scene, particularly in Belgrade, has seen growth post-COVID, partially due to the DIY venue AKAB Okretnica, which has since closed. Despite this setback, Dario notes vibrant activity in cities like Novi Sad and Smederevo and highlights the thriving scene in Croatia.
Pre-orders for Absurdity of this World are open, with shipments starting in early September through several labels including Out of the Darkness and Ayran Sounds.
