Sen. Bernie Sanders is returning to Iowa as part of his national speaking tour, “Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go From Here,” with an event scheduled for August 22 at the River Center in Davenport. This follows his tour’s initial stops in Omaha and Iowa City, where he emphasized grassroots organizing against Trumpism and political oligarchs.
Sanders urged attendees to resist reliance on Congress and instead mobilize millions across the nation to combat authoritarianism and inequality. He criticized Trump’s proposed policies, which include major cuts to essential programs and tax breaks for the wealthy, advocating instead for affordable housing and rent caps. Despite widespread protests, Trump’s controversial One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed with significant Republican support.
The Davenport event is free, but attendees are required to register online. The tour will also continue to Wisconsin, Michigan, and Chicago, with livestream options available for those unable to attend in person.
